(Towson, MD) - September 13, 2022 - Towson-headquartered MileOne Autogroup Towson-headquartered MileOne Autogroup — one of the nation’s leading automotive companies, and one of the mid-Atlantic region’s largest employers — will join Buckle Up for Life and Kids in Safety Seats to give away car seats to local families in need for “Child Passenger Safety Week.”

The initiative is supported by Buckle Up for Life, a national injury prevention program for families, created by Toyota and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in 2004. According to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, traffic accidents continue to be a leading cause of death of children ages 1 to 4.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that about 5,000 children are involved in car crashes in the United States annually, and 42% of children killed are unrestrained. The NHTSA also estimates that child safety seats reduce fatal injury by 71% for infants younger than a year old and 54% for toddlers in passenger vehicles.

From this month to the end of the year, MileOne plans to distribute approximately 500 car seats, valued at approximately $50,000, across its Hall, Herb Gordon, Heritage and MotorWorld divisions. The initiative is made possible by MileOneCares, the recently launched corporate giving program of MileOne Autogroup.

Since MileOne’s founding in 1997, the company has donated funds, volunteer hours and vehicles to hundreds of nonprofits throughout the communities it serves. MileOneCares also supports the company’s 3,900 employees through the NextMile Scholarship Program; the MileOne Support Fund, which provides financial assistance in times of disaster or emergency hardship; and an employee-nominated grant program, in which employees can apply for funds to support causes to which they are personally connected.
